TELL-TALE Clues to Being out of Alignment at Work
PEOPLE ARE HAPPIEST AND MOST PROSPEROUS in their work when it is, aligned with what is meaningful to them and what they’re passionate about. We happen to live in, rapidly changing work environment. What was joyful work one day can become dreaded work the next.
When things change, you want to make sure the changes are in alignment with what’s most important to you — such as your values and your talents. If they’re not, see if there are ways to bring them back into alignment. If it becomes clear that there are no ways to do that, then it’s time to move on.
How can you tell if the changes are out of alignment for you? If you’re in tune with yourself, your gut instincts or intuition will kick in which an answer. You can also talk to trusted friend, family member, or mentor. Watch for these tell-tale clues: frustration, anger, fatigue, stress, boredom, taking things out on those close to you, being told you’re no longer fun to be with.
The mistake many people make — when things stay out of alignment with what’s most important to them — is to hang on too long to a job that no longer works for them. They end up settling for less because it’s easier and safer. They don’t want to take the risk or make the time to look for work that would be more joyful. Hanging on too long will result in the loss of self-respect, loss of self- confidence, and unhappiness. Don’t let this happen to you.
Success…from the inside out means taking time to reflect on your current work. Ask yourself these questions:
- Am I passionate about what I’m doing?
- Am I using my talents and strengths?
- Am I happy in my work?
- Does it bring me joy and fulfilment?
- Am I earning what I deserve?
Remember: People are happiest and most prosperous in their work when it is aligned with what is meaningful to them and what they’re passionate about. That means you, too.
