Your body wisdom speaks are you listening
Another Way to listen to yourself is to check in with your body wisdom. Our bodies give us message and clues all the time about what’s going on with us in the form of aches and pain, tight jaws, knot in the stomach, fatigue, or shallow breathing. What many of us do though, is ignore what our bodies are saying and instead relegate them to just being an appendage to our heads.
Here is an example of Body Wisdom:
Do you get sick to your stomach when you drive to work? Do you suffer from Sunday night insomnia? If you answered yes, then your body is telling you loud and clear that something is amiss at work. Do you ignore these message from your body and continue to suffer? Or you listen to them and do whatever it takes to make changes so you can look forward to your work? Doing whatever it takes may means resolving an conflict with a boss or co-worker, finding a new job, or following your dream to become self-employed.
A client of mine in transition was checking out many career avenues, including sales. Whenever she thought about working in sales, she felt a knot in middle of her stomach. Whenever she thought about her other career options, the knot went away.
Her body wisdom was clearly giving her the message that the sales career was not the way to go. However, rather than listening and playing attention to what her body was telling her and crossing sales off her list, she continued to pursue sales as a career. Why? Because she thought it was a great way for her to make a good income. No matter that it didn’t fit her personality and talents.
After going on several sales interviews, walking away from each with a knot in her stomach, and feeling nauseous after the third interview, she finally realized her body was telling her that sales wasn’t the right job for her. With that understanding, she moved on to find work that brought her great joy. That’s living success… from the inside out
How do you start listening to your body wisdom? The easiest way is to begin noticing how you’re breathing. Is it with shallow or full breaths? If shallow, ask yourself what’s stressing you, what you’re angry about, or what you’re afraid about of. Take 3 to 5 deep breathing to normal; then figure out what it’s all about and take the appropriate actions. This week, start noticing how you’re breathing during the day, and listen to what your body wisdom is telling you.
